A ROAD show to explain how to combat unwanted weight loss in older people is being held in Swadlincote.

Derbyshire County Council’s Eat Well road show, tackling malnutrition in older people, will soon be out and about at the Age UK shop, in High Street, on Friday, March 15.

The Eat Well campaign is aimed at older people who are unintentionally losing weight – as well as their family and carers.

Healthy eating messages like five-a-day and low cholesterol don’t apply to this group and they should choose full-fat food and snack on high-calorie treats to gain weight.

The campaign, backed by Age UK Derby and Derbyshire and the NHS, will help people spot the symptoms in elderly friends, relatives and other older people.

Carol Hart, cabinet member for public health, said: “If you’re concerned about yourself, or someone you know, who is underweight, you can pop in to one of our road shows.”
