A ROTARY club has been given more than £1,000 towards a new gazebo from a councillor scheme.
Councillor Pat Murray, who represents Midway and Hartshorne on Derbyshire County Council, was asked by the Rotary Club of Swadlincote for any donations towards a new heavy duty gazebo for public events.
Councillor Murray, who is vice president of the club presented members with a cheque for £1,500 from the county council’s Members of the Community Leadership Scheme.
He said: “The rotary had been asking for a family gazebo. They needed a larger one for when they do public events.
“It needed to be a heavy duty one with weights to stop it blowing over.
“I presented them with the cheque as it would have taken a lot of fund-raising themselves to get the cash which would have eaten into their other fund-raising for our charities.”
