YOUNGSTERS and DIY enthusiasts have enjoyed learning a host traditional skills at a South Derbyshire visitor attraction.
Visitors to Calke Abbey, near Ticknall, took part in the Warden’s Craft Skills day at the National Trust venue.
The wardens were in action displaying skilful demonstrations of joinery, stone wall building and even sheep hoof trimming – all essential daily chores which keep the house and estate running smoothly and in good order.
Richard Levy, visitor experience manager at Calke Abbey, said: “The wardens here at Calke have years of experience to share, so this was a good opportunity to learn some really useful skills.
“It beat wading through instruction manuals, learning directly from the horse’s mouth.”
