AS the temperatures rose in Burton on Sunday, scouts from around the area got together to cool off in a rather novel way.
Six groups from around the area took part in the annual raft race on the River Trent, starting out at the Ferry Bridge and making their way down to a finishing point near Burton Canoe Club.
Boys and girls who are members of groups in Stapenhill, Burton, Yoxall and Rolleston had one hour to make the rafts before floating them down the river. All the rafts made it across the finishing line in one piece, though one broke up just afterwards.
The winning raft was put together by the group from Yoxall, and had been named the Yoxall Swan.
It was a welcome return for the raft race, which used to be a big thing for scouts in the area until it was canned for health and safety reasons.
Des Hill, leader of 4th Burton Scouts, who organised the event, said he was keen to bring it back as it was fun.
