Give my son's death a meaning
YVONNE Upton was forced to suffer every parent’s worst nightmare — bury her son after his murder in cold blood.
She said ‘goodbye’ to Connor, 21, after he was stabbed to death outside Burton’s Merlin’s nightclub.
“My son was so cold and I remember shaking while holding his hand,” she said.
“I kissed him but it wasn’t my baby, it was just a shell of him. I didn’t want to leave him there — it was cold.”
Mrs Upton spoke for the first time about her ‘baby’s’ tragic death as she helped the Mail launch Safer Burton, a campaign designed to crack down on crime and make our town better for all.
Backed by police, politicians and publicans, it focuses initially on the offence that killed Connor — knife crime — but if successful will be rolled out to tackle other issues.
Mail editor Kevin Booth said: “The death of one young man (Connor) in 2010 was a tragedy we never want to happen again.”
