Santas young and old in festive walk

Written byHELEN KREFT

MORE than 40 Santas have walked to Mercia Marina to raise funds for a local pre-school centre.

Young children from Findern Community Pre-School, donned Santa costumes to walk a mile to the nearby marina.

They were joined on the annual Santa Stroll by pre-school staff, parents and members of Findern Footpaths Group, who organised the charity event on behalf of the pre-school.

The event last year raised in excess of £500 towards toys and equipment for the pre-school. This year, funds raised will help to pay for new IT equipment.

Liz Froggatt, a member of Findern Footpaths, said: “The Santa Stroll was such a fantastic event last year when around 30 children and adults made the effort in freezing temperatures. This year is going to be even bigger.

“We couldn’t do this without the support of Mercia Marina, so we’re extremely grateful to all the staff there.”

Speaking before the event, Karen Lewing, pre-school supervisor at Findern Community Pre-School, said: “The fact we have people of all ages from different groups taking part, really boosts the community spirit.

“The children are really excited. This event represents a great start to our festivities as well as helping to raise much-needed funds.”

If enough money was raised, the pre-school may purchase a new iPad to aid learning.
