School in support for Fairtrade

Written byHELEN KREFT

SCHOOLCHILDREN have teamed up with a local supermarket to learn more about fair trade.

As part of Fairtrade Fortnight which runs until Sunday, pupils at St Edwards Primary School, in Newhall Road, Swadlincote, were visited by two representatives from Sainsbury’s.

As part of the visit, children learnt about how Fairtrade helps farmers to get a fair price for their products.

They also previously took part in colouring activities with the Fairtrade logos, and Sainbury’s PR ambassador Jenny Laud, and her colleague Paula Hallam, went to see the pictures.

They also talked to the children about Fairtrade and took some Fairtrade items for the children to see.

Mrs Laud added: “We then gave the children Easter eggs for the best pictures but this was very hard to judge because all the children had done very well.”

By participating, the school will be able to support Fairtrade’s ‘Take a Step’ Go Further campaign.
