Shoppers urged to keep safe

Written byROB SMYTH

SHOPPERS making the most of the new year sales are reminded that ‘Keep Safe Places’ have been established in busy retail areas in North West Leicestershire.

The venues are available for anyone who feels vulnerable, upset, scared or distressed in Ashby or Measham.

Set up in libraries and shops, including Age UK shops and businesses, staff can offer immediate reassurance to anyone that needs it.

They can offer basic support, including a place to sit down and contacting friends or relatives if necessary – or the emergency services if required.

The initiative has been developed by Leicestershire County Council in partnership with the police, city and district / borough councils, local community partnerships and Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland.

Details of exact locations can be found by heading online to www.leics.gov.uk/keepsafeplaceschemes
