Smartphone app Aims to boost town centre trade

Written byMARK MCKAY

PART of an action plan to boost trade in Swadlincote will include a state-of-the-art smartphone app.

After downloading the app, users will be able to find car parks in the town.

It is hoped the app will help bring in more customers to support businesses in Swadlincote.

Mark Alfat, director of operation at South Derbyshire District Council, who is behind the action plan, said: “The app would show where visitors can park in the town.

“Everyone knows where the council car park and the bus park is when they come into town but they might not know about other car parks which are less busy.

“The last thing we want is people thinking there is no parking and driving home or going somewhere else.

“It would not be able to say what spaces were available because we don’t have the money for that.

“But it would say where the car parks are so if the popular ones are full you can see where else is available.

“It is part of the modernising process and hopefully it will attract more people from outside the area and bring more trade into Swadlincote.”

South Derbyshire District Council is developing the action plan after receiving a £10,000 cash-pot to renovate Swadlincote town centre.
