A THRIFTY sewing group has been given a £500 boost for materials as it continues to save money by altering clothes.

Gill Farrington, who represents Swadlincote on Derbyshire County Council, donated the cash to the Stitch in Time members from her community fund.

This group meets every Friday afternoon at the Bus Park Café, formerly Collingwood Day Centre, in Swadlincote, and they are taught how to sew, how to alter old clothing instead of buying new along with embroidery.

Councillor Farrington said: “It was set up by a group who decided that the best way to get new clothes was to alter old ones rather than having to buy new ones which are often more expensive.

“They will put the £500 towards attending a sewing exhibition in Birmingham and on materials.”

Stitch in Time is open to all ages and cost £2 admission which includes tea and cake.

Further information is available by ringing the café on 01283 408603.
