A STUDENT with a penchant for fake tan and false eyelashes has been given a ‘make-under’ in a bid to give him a more natural look.
Jason Hodgkins, of Silkstone Close, Church Gresley, received a style and fashion overhaul from BBC3’s Snog Marry Avoid? television show.
Members of the public are asked as part of the show whether they would rather snog, marry or avoid the contestants. Before being stripped of his excessive make-up and eccentric clothing, 100 per cent of those polled said they would rather avoid Mr Hodgkins, 18.
Once his hair colour was changed and eight layers of fake tan were removed, however, 60 per cent of those surveyed said they would rather snog Mr Hodgkins, with the rest saying they would take his hand in marriage.
“I now realise I’d gone a little bit too far in the way I looked,” Mr Hodgkins admitted to the Mail.
“I think I’m going to tone myself down. I have gained confidence without putting on all my make-up.
“I’ve realised I don’t need all that to get attention.”
Mr Hodgkins is currently studying for a hair and make-up qualification at Stephenson College in Coalville and plans to begin further training at Burton and South Derbyshire College in September.
The show’s format required Mr Hodgkins to reveal his new look publicly on a catwalk following a day of intensive fashion and beauty treatment.
“My friends and family were really shocked to see how I had changed,” he said. “My mum was shocked to see me have the confidence to go down the catwalk like that. She definitely prefers my new, more-natural look.
“I am not going to go back to how I looked before but I’m also not going completely natural.
“I didn’t like my hair after the ‘make-under’ and I didn’t like some of the outfit, but I like the majority of what had been done.
“However, things like the false eyelashes I used to wear were a little bit too far.”
The episode of Snog Marry Avoid? featuring Mr Hodgkins will be shown later this year.
