A COUNCIL is set to freeze what it receives in council tax for the coming year, providing some relief to homeowners in South Derbyshire facing a 1.7 per cent hike overall.

South Derbyshire District Council is proposing not to increase rates for 2014/15, but the news comes after Derbyshire County Council, police and fire service all announced hikes in the region of two per cent.

It means bills will increase by £25.72 for the year on average.
