A 17-YEAR-OLD is facing youth custody again after attempting to threaten his sister’s neighbour with a knife.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Burton Youth Court to admit carrying a 7in-bladed knife in a public place without good reason.
Magistrates felt they needed a pre-sentence report to cover all options, including custody, given the nature of the offence and his previous record, which has involved an earlier spell behind bars.
The court was told that the youth had been living with his sister in the Horninglow area when an argument broke out in the street on July 14, involving his sister and her neighbour.
James Gormley, prosecuting, told magistrates the 17-year-old had become involved in the argument.
The other teenager did not emerge from his home with the bat.
Mr O’Driscoll said: “He is 17 years of age, staying with his sister.
“He had an argument with a neighbour.
“The neighbour’s son said he wanted to smash the windows and that he would get a cricket bat.
“My client, stupidly, got the knife as he thought the other teenager was getting the cricket bat, but he never did. He didn’t threaten anyone.
“He is aware this is a very serious offence and he has been in youth custody before.” Magistrates adjourned sentencing until August 18, and the youth was granted unconditional bail.
