MAKING better use of East Midlands Airport should be considered as well as extending major London terminals, a Derbyshire business leader has claimed.
Chris Hobson, head of information for the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, called on the Government to consider using the capacity of airports outside of London.
This should be done alongside plans to build new runways at Heathrow and Gatwick, he said.
Mr Hobson said: “Expanding air capacity is vital for the long-term prosperity of the UK.
“However, it’s also vital that when the longer-term expansion takes place the rest of the country is able to benefit from this by having adequate connectivity to the new development.
“And alongside any expansion in the south east, the feasibility of utilising existing capacity at East Midlands Airport, for example, should also be considered.”
