BURTON based companies will support a major tree planting project in South Derbyshire.
Springs, and Vortice Limited, both based in Burton, have supported The National Forest’s (TNF) tree planting project in Poppy Wood, near Melbourne, by sponsoring trees for the project.
The tree planting will take place on Friday March 1.
It is hoped the project, which include 30,000 oak, birch, and field maple trees being planted, will create an attractive section of woodland which will also support native woodland species.
The event will mark the completion of Poppy Wood, which TNF acquired in 2005.
It is also hoped the woodland will appeal to wheelchair users because of the wood’s surfaced paths.
Wilson Vale, a catering management company in Ashby will also have trees planted at the wood on its behalf.
The project is part of THF’s aim to increase the amount of woodland cover in Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire to a third.
Since starting its programme of forestation in the 1990s, TNF has tripled the amount of woodland in the area to 19 per cent.
The organisation reached a milestone last year when His Royal Highness the Duke of Cambridge planted the eight millionth tree in the forest.
