TOYOTA has secured a deal to supply a fleet of 250 Burnaston-built cars to one of the country’s largest trade unions.

The GMB has ordered a mix of environmentally-friendly Auris Hybrid and Auris Touring Sports cars from the Japanese manufacturer.

Both models are built at the South Derbyshire plant.

GMB is replacing its current fleet of Toyota Prius cars with the new models that have lower running costs and strong environmental credentials.

Choosing to buy British was another reason the union went for the Auris.

Paul Kenny, GMB general secretary, spoke about the decision to turn to Toyota for the unions fleet of cars.

He said: “GMB members have supported the union in its actions to improve its environmental impact and the move over to the Auris represents one of the largest changes we have made to meet that demand.’’
