YOUNGSTERS have been going up and under in an attempt to learn new skills with the Burton Venture Trust.
Senior members of the group spent time soaring above the ground and delving to the depths of the earth when they spent time at Lay-by Pot in Stoney Middleton and Roddige airfield with the group. Five people learned how to abseil into a pothole and then self-rescue using single-rope techniques, which involved using specialist gear to ascend a rope, on the trip to the Derbyshire Dales village. In their journey to the skies they enjoyed a trial flight in a flexi-wing microlight.
Activity leader Grahan Marshment said: “Thanks to a number of local organisations, who have supported us with equipment and resources, we’ve been able to offer young people a wide range of varied and challenging outdoor activities such as these. This was celebrated recently when Katie Neilson from Catton Hall gave out over 400 certificates to record BVT member’s participation in a whole range of activities.”
