A COLLEGE student has been honoured with an award dedicated to the memory of Princess Diana, for his voluntary work.
Eighteen-year-old Usman Ahmed, from Burton, received the Diana Award for being a Diana Champion Volunteer at Burton and South Derbyshire College and in the community.
His volunteering work has included assisting the FA with opening its new National Football Centre, assisting with open evenings at the college and taking part in a range of charity events.
The award was established in 1999 as a lasting legacy to Diana, Princess of Wales’ and exists to celebrate young people who support others and strive to improve their communities.
John Beaty, college vice principal, said: “Usman was delighted to receive an award in recognition of his commitment to helping others and supporting the community. We are all extremely proud of Usman and hope this award will inspire others to volunteer in their colleges and communities.”
