A PUPIL at a South Derbyshire secondary school is becoming an online hit – thanks to his top notch interviewing skills.
Reece Hollis, who is a Year 10 pupil at the Pingle School, in Coronation Street, Swadlincote, rose to fame this summer with a Youtube video that took a closer look at all things in the town.
The video was such a success that he was tasked with interviewing a political heavyweight - South Derbyshire MP Heather Wheeler.
The youngster told the Mail: “I had really enjoyed my first interview in the summer so jumped at the chance to interview Mrs Wheeler.
“It is really interesting to talk to people in the community and ask them about the role that they play in my area.
“The questions that the average 15-year-old wants the answers to is often different to what older people might want to know.
“Where we live is as important to us as anyone else.
“I was nervous before the interview but it was a brilliant experience interviewing Mrs Wheeler and I hope I will be able to interview other prominent members of the community in the future.”
Reece took time out of his lessons to head down to Mrs Wheeler’s constituency office in Church Street in Swadlincote to ask her a series of hard-hitting qustions.
Rob Rea, a teacher in the schools social studies department, said: “Community is very important at the Pingle School and what better way to bring it into the classroom than to send our students out to explore it.
“The interview will form part of the social studies department week of community assemblies at the school.
“Any member of the community who would like to take part in the Reece Interviews series should contact the school.”
