webpicTHE Burton Upon Trent and District Scout Council is hoping to encourage volunteers to help out and get out into the big wide world and join them.
There are now more than 1,000 scouts in Burton and membership is steadily increasing.
In the year 2001 there were 827 members and after this year’s annual census there are now 1,005, which is a 3.6 per cent increase on last year.
It caters for young people, boys and girls, from the age of six to 25.
Every year it has a large number of Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Explorer Scouts and Network members gaining their Chief Scout Award, the Explorer Scouts and then on to do the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queens Scout award.
This is all due to the adult leaders and helpers. However, they need more volunteers to become leaders and helpers so they can include the 65 young people on the waiting list.
