A COUPLE have issued a ‘massive thank you’ after a number of businesses offered help after hearing their marriage plans were in chaos following a wedding firm’s collapse.
Helen James and Paul Alexander (pictured), of Birkdale Avenue, Branston, have had five or six offers — from free wedding cakes to a tailor-made dress — after they revealed that they had £3,400 tied up in wedding planning and supply business Confetti, which has gone into administration.Despite learning that they will have some of the money returned to them, the pair, family and friends will still be left out of pocket.
But now they have been ‘shocked by the kindness of strangers’ after wedding firms throughout Staffordshire contacted them offering to help out following a story in the Burton Mail.
Helen said: “After clawing back as much money as we could we couldn’t believe it when we started to get all these phone calls of help.
“We have offers of dresses, cakes, venues, singers and cars — you name it and we have been offered it.
“Me and Paul cannot believe this massive outpouring of offers from anyone and everyone, it has been so unexpected.
“When this kind of thing happens it really reaffirms your belief in people.
“As it is not as bad as we first thought we won’t be taking up all the offers but some are insisting and we are currently talking with some firms.
“But overall we would just like to say a massive thank you for all the offers and all the kindness people have shown to us.” Jenny Gibson, who lives in Stretton and runs a firm called Lavender Cakes, said: “I’ve only been married a year myself and my husband and I spent a good year in the planning stages before we got married so even now, the thought of anything having gone wrong with those plans brings knots to my stomach.
“I can whole heartedly sympathise with Helen and Paul and I would love to offer them a wedding cake up to the value of £400 for their special day.
“I would love to be able to help Helen and Paul out if I can and I am hoping they can get something back from this awful situation.”
