MORE than £5,000 has been raised to support cancer charities.
Staff at the Willow Spa, in Horninglow Road, Burton, collected £310 for Cancer Research UK through a raffle supported by salon clients and other initiatives.
Owner Pippa Hutchison even donated £1 for every ‘like’ she got from friends via social networking site Facebook.
This was boosted by Tracy Edwards and Lynn Street raising £5,300 following the Chrysanthemum Ball, which was held at Pirelli Stadium.
The event was organised by the pair as part of Women v Cancer, which helps to raise vital funds for Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action.
The pair told the Mail: “We would like to thank everyone who has supported them - including many, many people and businesses in Burton and South Derbyshire.
“We have been overwhelmed by their generosity and the support and goodwill has surpassed expectations.”
As part of the pair’s bid to raise cash for Women v Cancer, they will attempt to cycle across China next year.
Lynn said: “These terrible illnesses claim hundreds of lives every year.
“Tracy and I fully support these charities and want to help as many women as we can through this event.
“We’re hard at work training.”
