A NORTH West Leicestershire police officer has been 'highly commended' at the Leicestershire Police Community Officer of the year awards.
PC Mark Arjoo, beacon officer for the Ashby Safer Neighbourhood Team, was recommended for the award by his colleagues on the force.
Mark has been a police officer for 20 years and has served in Ashby for the last 10.
Helena Bhakta, of Ashby Police, said: "In addition to traditional police duties Mark has made an impact far and wide in the local community.
"Mark has played a key role with Ashby street pastors, and was the only local officer to be invited to the street pastor national conference.
"He is also involved with a local youth football project, Ashby Pubwatch and Shopwatch, the Ashby Statute, and will often selflessly work in his own time to make sure events and meetings are covered.
"If you see Mark out and about be sure to stop him and congratulate him on his achievement."
Another officer from North West Leicestershire, Sian Mapp, was also put up for the same award for her work in the police force.
The citation for her efforts said: "Sian has worked tirelessly towards the implementation of neighbourhood priorities and has put a huge amount of personal commitment into the community.
"She has to addressed residents' concerns over anti-social behaviour and has personally taken responsibility for addressing problems which has meant close working with Leicestershire County Council to find solutions."
