GRESLEY manager Gary Norton has been left deeply disappointed after approaches for three players who were given the hairdryer in the Halesowen Town defeat.

The Moat boss is upset and surprised by players seemingly inviting clubs to come in for them after they were rollocked following a dire first half in the 4-2 defeat on February 9.

“The approaches are for players I tore strips off at Halesowen,” said Norton. “I question how coincidental that is.

“All three individuals apologised to me at the time for how they played.

“You can call it coincidental, but I’m a bit more cynical than that.”

There are also two approaches in for fringe players in the Gresley squad ahead of tonight’s Coalville Charity Cup clash with Ashby Ivanhoe at the Moat Ground, kick-off 7.45pm.

The tie has already been postponed twice and Norton is planning to use the match to give a run-out to players who have not been involved as much of late.

Striker Jordan Nadat, just back from a three-match ban for a straight red card, will start, as could the likes of Ryan Walker and Jamie Barrett,

Walker and Barrett returned at the back in Saturday’s sickening 2-1 home defeat to King’s Lynn Town.

Gresley hauled themselves level through Marc Goodfellow before a late winner for Town following a mistake from young Dean Rathbone.

“Dean’s a young lad and he’ll learn from it,” said Norton. “He’s certainly not going to be held to account for it – we win as a team and we lose as a team.

“He’s got great ability and will only get better in time.”

Michael Nottingham was left out on Saturday, surprising some fans, but Norton says his big defender needs to get back to his best and reacted superbly to being left out.

“Michael reacted exactly as I thought he would, and that was in a truly professional manner,” said Norton. “He was very open and honest and agreed with the decision.

“To be fair to him, he’s been playing through one or two knocks and we hope he comes back in better shape.”

GRESLEY FROM: Woodward, Barrett, Walker, Strzyzewski, Gough, Rathbone, Jepson, Holmes, Goodfellow, Lyons, Turville, Nadat, Hanslow, Woods, Hamilton.
