A 300-YEAR-OLD village pub will stay open if it stays viable, a local councillor has said.
At a recent meeting, Overseal Parish Council discussed the recent news that the Robin Hood pub, in Burton Road, was sold by Marston's to property firm New River, and is looking to let the building to another company.
Steve Smith, who represents Overseal on South Derbyshire District Council, said: "Over the last two years the pub headed back towards viability because it has new managers and people are starting to use it again.
"It was always the genuine hub of the village and the only pub so it is important. As a consequence New River is starting with a white elephant, so I don't think a planning application would be welcomed by planning officers."
