TWO friends from Burton walking a total of 880 miles in 51 days are asking people in the town to support them in raising £20,000 for St Giles Hospice.

Burton-based business owners Tim West, 35, and Paul Ainger, 41, are halfway through their charity trek from John O’ Groats to Lands End in an attempt to raise enough cash to pay for one nurse at the charity for a whole year.

The pair are passing through Anslow this weekend as part of the mammoth journey that has seen them walk an average of 20 to 25 miles per day as part of their efforts.

Mr Ainger, a former volunteer at the hospice, said: “One nurse can make such a huge difference to so many people’s lives so we thought we’d target raising the cash the hospice has to find to provide that care.”

Mr West said: “The walk is really hard work but it’s a great cause. We’ve been touched by the kindness and support of all the people we’ve met along the way, but we really need local people to get behind us and donate to help us reach out target.”
