A PEDESTRIANS’ charity has called on councils to ensure pavements are gritted as much as roads when temperatures plummet.

Living Streets said examining all ways to keep the thoroughfares ice-free was ‘a sound investment in public health’.

A spokesman said: “It makes economic sense to give our footpaths the same priority as roads and ensure they’re as safe as possible for us all to walk on.”
