STAFFORDSHIRE Fire and Rescue Service has reported no major incidents so far during ongoing strikes.

Service representatives are hoping the extra vigilance will continue throughout proposed industrial action.

In preparation for tonight's late-night strike, Chief Fire Officer Peter Dartford said: "If you are having a drink, get a taxi or walk to the pub.

"If you think you might get hungry after a night out, prepare something to eat in advance or pick up a takeaway on your way home.

"Never attempt to cook anything after drinking alcohol – it is an accident waiting to happen.

"I would also urge people to test their smoke alarms ahead of the strike to ensure that should an emergency occur, you will be alerted to it and can act quickly. Just two or three breaths of toxic smoke affects your ability to breathe."
