A PLANNING application to build homes on a site in North West Leicestershire has been withdrawn following opposition from a campaign group.
The proposal to build homes on the Bath Grounds in Station Street, Ashby, which was due to be considered at a meeting of the North West Leicestershire District Council planning committee has now been withdrawn.
Oakland Hotels, which owns the Bath Grounds and adjacent Royal Hotel, has dropped the application following opposition from the Friends of Ashby Bath Grounds group.
The campaign received over 5,000 signatures and letters of support.
Labour candidate for North West Leicestershire, Jamie McMahon, said: "I joined the people of Ashby in opposing this development and it is great news that the plans have been withdrawn. The Bath Grounds is a site of great importance to local people and we can all breathe a sigh of relief following the fantastic news."
