A GROUP determined to raise £500,000 to rebuild a rotting village hall have urged the community to support its efforts ahead of the official launch of its fund-raising appeal.
The team behind the move to rebuild Repton Village Hall has revealed plans for the event that will allow people to see its proposals and show their support for the project.
The village hall committee has been trying for several years to spruce up the community facility and is now hosting the event from 3pm to 5pm on Sunday, April 13, at the village hall in a bid to drum up support for the project.
A spokesman for the group said: “Repton Village Hall needs to be demolished and rebuilt in the next three years.
“We urgently need to raise the money to rebuild the hall and need your support.
“Please come to our official appeal launch, see the plans and meet the fund-raising team.
“If you have any ideas we would love to hear them.”
Original plans were to refurbish the hall but this would have cost more than rebuilding it from scratch.
Plans were originally put in place for a three stage rebuild but a public consultation ruled that out after it was revealed doing the work in one go would save up to £100,000.
A spokesman added: “We appeal to residents, businesses and other groups in the village that maybe able to help to please do so and we are grateful for donations.
“The village hall is the focus of village activity and helps to create a sense of community in the area.
“It supports societies and interest groups as well as hosting cultural and social events.”
Members of the committee decided the village hall, in Askew Grove, which opened in 1973, felt that it needed to be rebuilt as it has fallen into decline in recent years.
The event will feature complimentary drinks and Easter crafts for children.
