POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an incident in Burton in which five people were discovered with various injuries during the early hours of New Years Day.

Officers in the town were called to reports of a disturbance between two groups of people in Anglesey Road, at its junction with All Saints Road, at around 2.40am on New Years Day.

Patrols arrived to find a total of five people - three men and two women - all aged in their 20s and early 30s, in the street with various minor injuries. It was reported that the other group involved had already left the area, and these are the people that police need to trace and speak to.

It later transpired that two of the victims, a 23-year-old woman and a man, aged 32, required medical treatment, but are not thought to be seriously hurt.

The offenders are described as a group of around ten men, some described as black and others white, aged between 20 and 27, wearing casual clothing. It is believed some of them left the area in a vehicle.

Witnesses are asked to contact PC Matt Hall at Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 287 of January 1. Alternatively, they can contact independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
