GRAFFITI that had been sprayed on a wall in Swadlincote has been cleaned as part of an ongoing police crackdown.

Officers from Swadlincote Town Safer Neighbourhood Team had been told about the graffiti in a passage off Alexandra Road.

The team contacted South Derbyshire District Council, and staff have now cleaned up the sprayed area.

Tackling graffiti throughout Swadlincote has become a focus for the team in recent weeks following reports from members of the public.

PCSO Kate Bottomley said: “There was quite a lot of graffiti in the alleyway, so I made contact with the council and it was quickly removed.

“It makes a massive difference to the area and it looks a lot better for it, which is what we want for the town.

“We are cracking down on graffiti and if it carries on, we will be doing extra patrols to find out who is responsible.”

Officers are also urging members of the public to report incidents of graffiti, vandalism or anti-social behaviour as they happen by calling 101.
