DETECTIVES investigating an alleged serious sexual assault are searching for two women who were approached by suspects wanted in connection with the attack – just hours before it happened.
Derbyshire Police issued a desperate plea in a bid to find the women – who were out in Burton town centre – as officers believe they could hold the key to exactly what took place during the alleged incident in Ashby Road East, Bretby, in the early hours of Saturday.
A major investigation was launched after a 22-year-old woman claimed she had been attacked by two men after a night out in Burton on Friday.
Police have arrested two people. One has since been bailed and the other remains in custody.
Now officers have released detailed descriptions of the men believed to have been involved in the attack.
They hope the move will prompt any potential witnesses to come forward.
Specialist forensics officers were spotted searching a caravan linked with the incident for clues at the scene, which was later taken away for further in-depth analysis.
A spokesman for Derbyshire Police said: “We can confirm that we are investigating an alleged attack on a 22-year-old female that took place at 3am on Saturday in Ashby Road East, Bretby.
“The victim was out in Burton on the evening of Friday with the incident believed to have taken place hours later.
“We are now appealing for two females who may have been approached in Burton by two males believed to be involved to come forward as they may be able to assist us.
“We would also ask that people refrain from discussing this case on social networking sites and, instead, to report any information to us instead of posting it online.”
The first man is described as a male of white pale complexion with a foreign accent, in his early 20s and between 5ft 3in and 5ft 4in tall.
He is of skinny build and has short blond hair.
He has gaps or dark patches in between his teeth. He was wearing a red long-sleeved top and light-coloured jeans on the night of the incident.
The second man is described as being white but tanned, in his late 20s or early 30s and around 14 to 15 stone with a foreign accent.
He has dark facial hair and was wearing a blue top and dark jeans.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
