LEICESTERSHIRE Police are reminding diners to be more aware of where they place their phones whilst eating.

The force has received reports of mobile phones being stolen from individuals while they sit and eat a meal at bars and restaurants in the area.

PC Andrew Jones said: “I would urge people not to leave their mobile phones on the table while they are eating a meal.

“Diners are being approached by individuals with a map asking for directions to locations in the area.

“While the map is being used as a decoy and blocking the phone from the owner’s line of vision, the phone is being taken from the table.”
