POLITICIANS and council bosses from across Burton and South Derbyshire came together to praise the Brewers following their defeat in the League Two play-off final.
Richard Grosvenor, leader of the opposition on East Staffordshire Borough Council, struggled to contain his emotions following the one-nil loss.
He told the Mail: “I am absolutely devastated.
“I thought they were the best side first half but we came back in the second and just needed someone to join up our midfield and attack.
“Next year we will go one better with a top three finish and automatic promotion.”
Frank McArdle, chief executive of South Derbyshire District Council and Football Association director, said: “People in South Derbyshire have an allegiance to Gresley FC, Burton Albion and Derby County.
“Their disappointment will be replaced with hope for next season.
Pat Murray, who represents the Woodville ward on South Derbyshire District Council, said: “It’s great to support Burton Albion and enjoy their achievements so far.
“I am confident we can do it next season.
“The players will be better qualified and experienced from this and hopefully take us straight up.”
