PLANS to build 485 homes on a former Ministry of Defence (MoD) site have been recommended for approval by planning chiefs.

Members of South Derbyshire District Council’s planning committee will gather together on Tuesday night to decide the outcome of St Modwen’s plans to build 485 homes on the site near The Mease, in Hilton.

If plans are approved, it could pour more than £1 million into 73 secondary school places and more than £540,000 into 29 post-16 pupil places.

However, Hilton Parish Council objects saying there is a lack of infrastructure within the village; whilst primary education is provided for secondary education is not and John Port School is already/almost full; and it will increase traffic and flooding.

Egginton Parish Council objects to the proposal due to implications for flooding downstream where Egginton remains at risk of flooding, despite flood defences.

There were also seven letters of objection citing that oversubscribed doctors cannot cope and infrastructure will be affected.
