RESIDENTS in Winshill have been hit by a power failure for the second time in less than 24 hours, following a problem at a sub-station in the area.

People living in Stapenhill, Bretby and Winshill were plunged into darkness at 10.20pm yesterday, but engineers managed to get the power back on by 11.20pm.

Supply was redirected to another source, according to Western Power Distribution, but the power has gone off today this lunchtime.

A spokesman for the power company said the power went off at 12.30pm because of a different fault. Engineers are currently working to resolve the problem.

One place which has been affected is the Total Garage on Ashby Road, where staff have been forced to use a pen and paper to add up bills.
