A PRIMARY school in Burton has closed its doors to most of its pupils this morning following 'an incident' at the premises last night.
Parents at St Modwen's Catholic Primary School received text messages before the school was due to open informing them that the site would be closed for children up to year five, and may not reopen until Monday.
The nature of the incident is not known, and staff at the Belvoir Road school said they were not in a position to say what had happened. The school may open to pupils later this afternoon, they added.
A police forensics van was inside the locked school gates when the Mail visited at around 9am.
It is still open to children in year six during the morning, though they can only enter the school through one gate.
A total of 270 children attend the school, which is due to relocate to a new site off Tutbury Road later this year.
