A BURTON man has been sent to jail for four months for failing to turn up for unpaid work that he was required to carry out as part of his sentence.

David Stone, 32, of Dunedin Crescent, Winshill, appeared at Burton Magistrates’ Court today (Friday).

The court heard that he had failed to report for his unpaid work on one occasion and a supervision requirement on a separate occasion.

He was serving a suspended sentence, imposed in January, which followed on from a community order he was sentenced to in December, but breached.

The sentence related to an assault charge.

Despite Stone claiming he was too sick to stand up in court, and his solicitor asking for the case to be adjourned, magistrates said they had no option but to activate the order in full.
