THE stage is set and the venue is ready – all that is needed now are the main acts.

The Navigation, in Horninglow Road, Burton, is calling on musicians from across East Staffordshire and South Derbyshire to come forward and take part in what it hopes will turn into an annual music festival.

Taking place over the weekend of August 8 to 10, the idea is the brainchild of the pub's manager, Shaun Hallet. A keen music-lover himself, he says that he hopes the idea will bring together Burton's brewing heritage and its local talent which may not yet have been discovered. Some bands have already been booked, but he is calling on others to get in touch if they want to be a part of it.

Shaun explained: "Burton is a big brewing town and our idea is to bring the love of beer and music together. As well as helping to promote local bands we want to get a range of different beers in from outside the area.

"It's the first time we've done something like this and we want to try to bring the community closer together. The pub has traditionally been big on football but we want to try to improve the music scene as well."

Friday is planned as a launch night event where a Jam tribute band will get the festival under way. However, on Saturday there will be spaces available for any bands wanting to put themselves forward to perform a set on the stage, which has already been set up in the beer garden.

Shaun says he is planning for the first act to start at 6pm but is willing to start earlier should there be a big interest in taking part. The festival will close on Sunday where more bands can perform and there will also be a barbecue to enjoy.

Some bands wishing to sign up to take part in the festival will be paid if they are up to a certain standard, whereas others will be able entitled to free drinks and food instead. Anyone interested should contact Shaun at The Navigation.
