RORY Delap played 55 minutes against his former club as Stoke City beat Burton Albion 2-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the Potters' Clayton Wood training ground on Saturday.
It was the hosts' first competitive clash of pre-season, ahead of their pre-season tour to the United States this week, while for the Brewers it marked another chance to see their new star signing in action.
Jon Walters and Michael Kightly scored the goals as Delap played at right-back once again, and said afterwards that he would not be pulling his famous long throw out of the bag from day one.
"It’s a bit too early to get them out of the locker yet, I’ll wait until the season starts for that – give my shoulders a rest for now," he said.
"It’s great to be back at Clayton Wood and see everyone, not just the lads but everyone else who works here, but it feels a bit strange being part of the opposition.
"It’s a great deal for me to join up with Burton, they are a club heading in the right direction and looking to go up, so it will be great to part of and hopefully for me to keep playing football."
More to follow.
