A RECRUITMENT campaign by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service will see an increase in the number of retained firefighters in the county.

Part-time crew members are being sought at the Barton-under-Needwood and Uttoxeter stations, and new employees will provide vital emergency response cover, either from home or a work base.

Applicants must be aged over 18 and those successful will join more than 400 retained firefighters in the area.

Retained support officer for the east of the county Ian Pullen said: "Our retained firefighters play an integral role in the lifesaving work of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, helping us to provide first-class emergency response cover for our residents.

"They bring a range of skills, expertise and experience which is utilised and built on through being a part of the service. I would encourage enthusiastic, dedicated people to submit an application form as soon as possible."

Successful applicants will take part in an initial training course and, following its completion, will attend weekly drill nights to ensure they maintain their skills.

Email Ian Pullen at i.pullen@staffordshirefire.gov.uk or call 01785 898504/07971893280 for more information on how to apply for a position. The closing date is September 8.
