A GARAGE built in a village near Burton would create an 'undesirable precedent', and 'erode' the appearance of the street scene, planning officers have said.

Miss J Tipper, of The Elms Dunstall Road Dunstall, has been refused permission by East Staffordshire Borough Council to build a detached building to form a garage, carport and store.

In their refusal, the authority said the homes are set back from the road with no detached buildings in the front gardens.

The officers said: "The proposed garage would sit to the front of The Elms in a prominent position creating an intrusive feature in the street scene to the detriment of the current character and appearance of this part of Dunstall Road.

"The proposal, if approved, would also set an undesirable precedent for other detached buildings in the front gardens of nearby homes, which would further erode the existing character and appearance of the street scene."
