A SEX attacker who groped a young woman in the street at 4am has been jailed after she filmed him on her mobile phone.
Luis Silva, 22, of Springfield Road, Repton, was jailed for three-and-a-half years after exposing himself and sexually assaulting the 23-year-old woman as she walked home from a nightclub on June 15.
When she revealed she was filming him, Silva tried to take her phone by force – but she ran away and handed the footage to police, who released the images to the public in an attempt to trace him.
Judge Robert Jukes said the victim had shown 'extraordinary presence of mind' and intelligence in recording what was happening.
He said that Silva had seen her on her own and followed her before sexually assaulting and slapping her, but that she still had the strength and courage to resist.
The court heard Silva had spent £150 on whisky after a row with his girlfriend.
He then went outside and wandered the streets of Evesham, where he worked, until he found the victim.
Worcester Crown Court was told that as she walked along the high street, the victim saw a man, later identified as Silva, on the other side of the road.
He followed her for some distance. As she arrived at a junction, he had somehow got in front of her and was exposing himself.
Silva then asked her to touch him, but instead the victim got out her mobile phone and used its video camera to record what was happening.
Silva then followed her before sexually assaulting her and slapping her face.
The victim fell to the floor and told him that she was recording everything.
Paul Whitfield, prosecuting, told the court that Silva tried to grab the phone before running away.
He pleaded guilty to sexual assault, indecent exposure and attempted robbery of the mobile phone.
Sarah Holland, defending, told the court that Silva had arrived from Portugal in search of a better life.
Miss Holland added that Silva had 'drunk enough to sink a ship' and had no recollection of what happened, but was thoroughly ashamed of his actions. Silva was sentenced for each individual offence, including three-and-a-half years for sexual assault.
He also received three years for attempted robbery and 12 months for indecent exposure and will serve the sentences concurrently.
