POLICE have launched an investigation after the body of a 43-year-old man was discovered at a house in Burton.
Officers and a forensics team were called to an address in Victoria Street just before 6pm yesterday.
Members of the public gathered outside, some crying in the street as police began the probe into the death.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We can confirm that the body of a 43-year-old man was discovered at a house in Victoria Street.
“An investigation has now been launched and inquiries are ongoing to find out what happened to the man.
“Our condolences are with his family at this difficult time.”
By 7pm, up to 30 people were stood in the street outside the property, keen to pay their respects.
Bystanders refused to comment when approached by the Mail, but described the death as ‘very sad’.
