HUNDREDS of people took time out in the sun to enjoy a special classic car event at the National Memorial Arboretum.

The National Memorial Arboretum, in Alrewas, played host to the occasion, which saw more than 200 classic cars on display.

The ‘Drive It Day’ showcase featured several cars featured in the BBC series ‘Father Brown’ alongside the car driven by Stirling Moss when he won the 1954 Monte Carlo Rally.

Guests were also treated to a surprise visitor when a replica Ford Gran Torino, made famous in cult television show Starsky & Hutch, also parked up at the event.

Organiser Pauline Blake said: “I think the arboretum is an amazing place and well worth supporting.”

The ‘Drive it Day’ is always held on the Sunday closest to St George’s Day and, in the motoring world, is traditionally when people take their treasured vehicles out for a spin.
