MORE than 20 Burton businesses have stopped shoppers in their tracks as part of a fund-raising ‘flashmob’.
Staff from shops, including popular chains such as Boots and The Lord Burton, took in a bit of fancy dress to raise money for Burton YMCA by taking part in a ‘flashmob’ at The Octagon shopping centre, on Saturday.
As the music was switched on, they surprised shoppers by suddenly breaking into dance for the popular YMCA song made famous by The Village People.
Gillian Cox, appeals co-ordinator at Burton YMCA, said “The YMCA is more than just a song. Each night more than 70 people in Burton who would otherwise be homeless have a bed to sleep on in our accommodation.”
Businesses who took part included F Hinds, The Cobbler, Clarks, Henry Rose Jeweller, The Book Shop, Asda, and the Munch bunch.
Local dance group, Touch of Life was also praised for their enthusiasm and encouraging shoppers to join in.
Gillian said: “It was brilliant. Touch of Life was absolutely amazing.
“It was a great bit of fun and we loved getting out there and talking to people about the work the YMCA does.”
