VISITORS will be given a traditional theatre treat when they go to see HMS Pinafore this week.
The Gilbert and Sullivan production, performed by members of Burton Operatic Society, is one of the duo’s most popular musicals, including songs such as We Sail the Ocean Blue, Sorry her Lot and Over the Bright Blue Sea.
And in this performance, audience members get two-for-one, as the play ‘Trial by Jury’ is also thrown into the production for good measure.
Director Steve Foster, who was brought up on Gilbert and Sullivan, decided to combine the two as HMS Pinafore is quite a short play.
Eagle-eyed fans will notice the latter play is performed by the ship’s crew at the start of the second act.
Mr Foster, who has adapted the musical for Burton, said: “For those theatregoers who consider themselves traditionalists the music is exactly as Sullivan originally wrote it. Some of the dialogue and the costume have been changed to bring it right up to date.”
HMS Pinafore is running until Saturday at De Ferrers Academy, Harehedge Lane.
