RAW sewage flooded out of a manhole cover on a street in Newhall, after it became blocked yesterday.

The junction of Howden Close and Plummer Road were covered with sewage and waste water for several hours before workers from Severn Trent were able to stem the flow and fix the problem.

Sanitary products were behind the issue, according to a spokesman for the water company, as they had been flushed down the toilet and blocked the sewer.

“Residents can help prevent this from happening, simply by putting items like this in the bin rather than flushing them down the loo,” she added.

A team visited the site to jet the sewer and get rid of the blockage, before carrying out investigations on how the issue had affected the wider area.

Sewage flowed down Plummer Road for several hours before it could be stemmed.
