MORE than 1,300 Derbyshire tradesmen and women have had their business boosted by the Trusted Trader scheme since it started four years ago.

It is now the largest of its kind and aids particularly elderly and vulnerable people choose reliable tradesmen and women that will do a good job for a fair price. It was also designed to boost business nationally.

To join up as a Trusted Trader, the company must be checked by the trading standards agency and to promise to never cold call clients.

As the scheme proved such a success Derbyshire County Council is looking at expanding it to run a similar one for independent retailers on the county’s high streets.

Kevin Parkinson, county council cabinet member for regeneration, said: “Our Trusted Trader scheme has been a phenomenal success - being showcased on programmes such as Watchdog for the impact it has had. It has given residents confidence in the traders they are employing from our register of over 1,300 in 222 different professions.”
